Hollingworth Lake was built over 200 years ago to supply water to the Rochdale Canal. Today it is the centre of a popular Country Park with visitor facilities, nature areas and a variety if water sports including rowing, sailing and canoeing.
Trails, many starting at the Visitor Centre, make it an ideal gateway to the surrounding countryside. The path around the lake is level and provides a scenic and accessible walk beside the water, taking in the conservation areas and providing stunning views of the moors close by.
A lively events programme provides education and entertainment for people of all ages and interests. The attractive Visitor Centre is the base for the Countryside Service, which manages the park, and contains fascinating displays, exhibitions and a café.
